Chapter 4 · 1999 to 2004

Called to Preach

Associate Pastor at Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church, where Tony met his wife Jenn.

Tony and Jenn Locke in their early years

I left Fort Jackson to come home to Atlanta as Associate Pastor of Peachtree Corners Presbyterian Church. My job was to build relationships in the community and welcome new families. Twenty-eight families joined in the first six months, and I can only take partial credit: the team was already moving before I arrived.

We connected the church to the Norcross Cooperative Ministry food pantry and helped staff it with volunteers. And it was in that church that I met Jenn. About eighteen months after I arrived we were married there, and our first child was born while we served there. I was ordained in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

What I learned: you can't build a church alone, and God often gives you far more than you came for.
