Chapter 7 · 2009 to 2022

Building to Serve

National Service Charity, Visiting Chaplains, Training Property Managers and Patriot Health: building organizations that serve others.

In March 2009 I founded National Service Charity, a public 501(c)(3) that adopts people’s transformative ideas as its mission, puts them in charge and handles the nonprofit administration. As its Executive Director I have helped raise more than $5 million across 15+ charities. With Tom Boyd I co-founded Visiting Chaplains, and I have coached 34 chaplains toward board certification.

After our family sold its property management company, I joined my father in consulting and helped build TrainingPropertyManagers.com: state-specific leases, Georgia continuing-education classes and more than 800 training videos. In 2020, as COVID-19 spread, I launched Patriot Health to connect buyers and sellers of protective equipment, and since 2021 it has helped employers with health benefits. Along the way I have visited or served in more than 35 countries.

What I learned: business can be ministry when it exists to serve the success of others.
